Your Devotional message for 18th April 2021
Scripture:
Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy (1 Corinthians 14:1, NKJV)
Explanation
A spiritual gift is a supernatural ability or talent given to you by the Holy Spirit for the profit of all. There are many spiritual gifts in the Scriptures. Today is day 18 of 30 days of Divine Health and Healing. The purpose of our Daily meditation is to understand the operation of the Gifts of Spirit for Divine health and Healings. Let us examine the scripture above: Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy (1 Corinthians 14:1, NKJV). There are 3 instructions within the scripture.
Firstly, Pursuit of Love with God and our neighbour is the greatest commandment given by our Lord Jesus. God is Love. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal (1 Corinthians 13:1, NKJV). This is to say that without Love the spiritual gifts are purposeless.
Secondly, you must desire spiritual gifts. Desire is to want something with interest, eagerness, or urgency. As per the focus of this study, we examine the nine Spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit given by Paul in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10. “For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.”
These gifts are divided into 3 groups by Theologians for a better understanding of their roles and activities.
The revelatory gifts: Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge and Discerning of Spirits. The Word of Knowledge or the Word of Wisdom reveals the will or the Mind of God concerning a matter, whereas the Discerning of spirits reveals the spirit in operation.
The power gifts: The Gift of faith, The Gift of working of miracles and the Gifts of healings. The gift of faith is not the same as Faith. This is the supernatural of God to bring manifestation of the Work or Act of God. For instance, the gifts of healings is pluralized because of its diversity for different diseases or health issues.
The vocal gifts: The gift of prophecy, different kinds of tongues, and the interpretation of tongues.
Any of these gifts is manifested by The Holy Spirits according to the will of the Father.
Thirdly that you may prophesy (1 Corinthians 14:1, NKJV). God wants every believer to understand how to prophesy. It is important to desire all these gifts and pray that the Holy Spirit to enable you to flow in these gifts.
Stay tune as we shall continue further tomorrow. Remain uncommonly blessed.
Confession:
Lord grant me the grace so that the Holy Spirit may bring forth the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as the Spirit give permission. The word of God is in my mouth. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, it is piercing even to the division of my soul and spirit, and of my joints and marrow, and is a discerner of my thoughts and intents of the heart.
I prosper in all my ways and have good success daily, monthly and all years to the Glory of God in the name of Jesus. My body is healthy and strong. I refuse sickness, diseases, and evils of this world. I exercise my dominion over devil and the cohorts of darkness. From today I declare my victory and protection in the name of Jesus.
Further Reading scriptures to meditate:
And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease (Matthew 10:1).
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, (Ephesians 4:11-12, NKJV).
